Spurs gaffer Antonio Conte reacted to racism towards Tottenham Hotspur attacker Richarlison at his press conference on Thursday. The Brazilian was thrown a banana during the exhibition game with Tunisia in Paris when he celebrated his goal at the corner flag.
Conte spoke to the media on Thursday, in the run-up to the North London Derby against Arsenal, but first wanted to speak about the incident in the Parc des Princes. “Richy played with the national team and scored a goal. What happened then is unbelievable,” the Italian manager began.
“That we will experience such a situation in 2022 is embarrassing for everyone,” says Spurs gaffer Antonio Conte. “I hope this person is banned from football for the rest of his life. It’s a very disappointing situation,” said the Tottenham manager.
Richarlison told shortly after the match in Paris that he had not seen the banana. “I don’t know what I would have done differently,” the 25-year-old attacker said honestly. He later expressed his annoyance on Twitter: “As long as it stays with bla bla bla and no punishments are handed out, it will continue like this.”
FIFA has now launched an investigation into the Paris incident. The Brazilian federation and Tottenham Hotspur have also already responded via social media.
