Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, has told Lionel Messi to remain at Barcelona for his whole career because his departure will be a bigger loss to La Liga than even Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The departure of Cristiano frustrated Madrid but it didn’t bother them because we spent years at La Liga ensuring our name went beyond the players. But Messi is exceptional and he’s the greatest player he’s ever seen so we’re fortunate to have him in La Liga,” Tebas explained on RAC1 on Thursday.
“When he goes to another team that will be a huge impact, of course it wouldn’t be a disaster but it brings too much meaning to us,” he said.
He elevated Messi to a legend on Spanish football: “Messi is a symbol of Spanish football and I will ask him to end his career here and continue to give us enjoyment.”
