Erik ten Hag published an open letter to fans of The Mancunians on the Manchester United website on Monday. The Dutch manager predicts a bright future for United supporters.
Ten Hag won his first prize with United in the League Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday, which has replenished the trophy cabinet for the first time since 2017. “When I arrived at the club, we talked about the challenge and the importance of reuniting this group of players with our great fans. Trust me, this team knows exactly how important you are,” the Dutchman, who arrived last summer, writes to United fans.
“The bond between the fans and the team is visible to everyone and what we’ve been through together will only strengthen that bond,” said Ten Hag. “The atmosphere you created at Wembley was incredible. I am also proud of my players and staff. Yesterday we saw the requisite desire, team spirit and determination that we demand from everyone who represents Manchester United. We set high standards for ourselves every day. At Wembley we met those requirements and got our reward.”
“We all know the importance of trophies in the history of this great club. And we are so happy to be able to take this trophy back to Old Trafford but we are certainly not satisfied and we will not stop here. We have now experienced again what it means to win together for Manchester United. It is truly magnificent and will only make us all hungrier for more success,” the former Ajax manager further added.
Sir Alex Ferguson points out issue with Ten hag’s team
“This group has made great strides, but there is much more to come. We return to work today and are now fully focused on preparing for West Ham’s FA Cup clash on Wednesday evening. It remains our wish to bring this club back to where we want to be,” concludes Ten Hag, who was praised by prominent analysts after the League Cup final.
Sir Alex Ferguson is impressed by Manchester United’s resurgence, but the former manager also sees a concern. In his opinion, Erik ten Hag is too dependent on Marcus Rashford’s goals.
United seized the League Cup on Sunday and won the first prize in almost six years. Ferguson went for a bite to eat with Ten Hag before the final at Wembley and took the time to congratulate the Dutchman after the overall victory. In conversation with Sky Sports, Ferguson once again shined his light on the cup final. In the eyes of the Scottish manager, the pressure on Rashford’s shoulders is enormous.
“He’s a fantastic player. His finishing is always good and he usually keeps his shots low. Which is very important for a striker,” said Ferguson. “He’s in great shape. Unfortunately for us, he is the main source of goals. We could use another one like that, but he does.”
