Lionel Messi says he is grateful for his time at PSG. He will leave Paris after two seasons and three titles.
Messi grateful for time at PSG: “I want to thank everyone”
Messi thinks it’s time for something different. “I am very happy to represent PSG,” Messi is quoted by ESPN. “It felt good to be on the field with such players and I want to thank the club for this great experience.”
No shortage of options for Messi. The Argentinian world champion can sign an XXL contract with Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia, but a return to Barcelona is also possible. Barcelona hopes to hear from Messi soon where his future lies. “He’ll make a decision next week and I think now it’s up to us to leave him alone. At the end of the day, he is the one who decides on his future and we can talk about it every day, but then a lot of things are said that are not correct,” Barcelona coach Xavi said this week.
Messi made the switch from Barcelona to PSG two years ago. The Spanish club wanted to continue with its star, but was unable to secure a new contract financially.
Departure Messi makes itself felt: PSG loses 600,000 followers on Instagram
Lionel Messi played his very last match in the shirt of Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. The Argentinian leaves the French capital, but does not do it alone.
Messi’s farewell was certainly not in style. The 35-year-old world champion again had to endure a flute concert and lost to PSG against Clermont Foot (2-3). The new destination of Messi is not yet known. In the corridors, Barcelona and Inter Miami in particular are mentioned as important candidates. While those at Barcelona are fully confident of a Messi return to the Camp Nou, despite the financial status.
The fact that Messi has a large fan base became apparent after the defeat against Clermont. Before the start of the game, PSG still had 69.9 million followers on Instagram, after the game that number had been reduced to 69.3 million. This means that (partly) due to the departure of Messi, 600,000 people have unfollowed PSG’s Insta account.
