Despite spending a successful season on loan with them now, Lucas Torreira cannot return on loan to Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal will reportedly not allow the Uruguayan midfielder to return on loan to Atletico Madrid next season.
Torreira moved to Atletico on loan in October of last year, for one season. And within just a month, the former Sampdoria star said he was keen on returning to Italy.
The Uruguayan star has clocked up 26 appearances in total for Atletico this season.
With his help, Simeone’s side are currently at the top of the LaLiga table. They have a chance of winning the title for the first time since the 13/14 season.
Out of Atletico
Torreira is eager to return to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano next season, despite struggling to establish himself under Diego Simeone.
However, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone remains ‘unconvinced’ by the Uruguayan, though he himself is ‘happy’ in the Spanish capital.
moreover, while Torreira cannot return on loan to Atletico Madrid, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also unsure on the midfielder.
Bound for Boca?
Torreira has also been linked with a return to South America ahead of next season.
He spoke to ESPN Argentina earlier this month after the death of his mother.
He said: “It’s not a violent emotion, a crazy decision because of my mother. I have always said that I want to play for Boca.
“I’m dying to play for Boca and I will always say it. The night my mother died, one of the first to hear the news was my agent.”
However, though Boca Juniors are allegedly interested, they cannot afford him. The Brazilian club are unwilling to match the Gunners’ current £13 million valuation.
Indeed, the Gunners are even willing to accept a cut-price fee of £15million for the player. That’s £11m less than what they paid for him from Sampdoria in 2018. But Atletico don’t seem keen on investing in Torreira any more.
