Everyone in football journalism knows that Mundo Deportivo lives and breathes football transfers, so we’re unsurprised by their latest rumours. They are churning out more rumours than ever, even during the deadest transfer time of year, the October international break. this time, Mundo ask, will Sterling join Barcelona from Manchester City in January?
Will Sterling Join Barcelona from Manchester City in January?
Mundo Deportivo are now saying, citing the Sun, that Raheem Sterling will not join Barcelona in January. Though Sterling saw links to Arsenal just months ago (football news), this doesn’t strike us as a very far-fetched prediction.
To begin with, even if Manchester City were willing to sell Sterling, they would not do it in January.
That winter transfer window would be smack in the middle of a domestic season. And this is a season in which the defending domestic champions appear very likely to win the Premier League.
Second, even if City did willingly sell Sterling, we can’t possibly know yet how much that deal would cost Barcelona.
Finally, and most importantly, Barcelona isn’t in a financially sound position, certainly not really able to spend money right now.
Still, let’s imagine that Barcelona could, in fact, acquire the winger for €100 million.
How will that look six months after Barcelona let Leo Messi leave because they couldn’t afford to pay his wages?
