The golfer and his generous wife have decided to give back to the sport by sponsoring a series of golf tournaments for female golfers in Britain. The series has been christened ‘The Rose Ladies Series’ and will feature 7 events.
One of those events is scheduled to take place at Royal St George’s. It was supposed to host the Men’s British Open before the pandemic cancelled those plans.
Rose, who won the 2013 US Open championship as well as the gold medal at the Rio Olympics will be contributing a whopping £35,000 for the prize money.
In a statement, the player revealed, “I am keenly aware that I now have the opportunity to go back to work and compete on the PGA Tour but this is not the same. I am sad that the Ladies European Tour has been suffering so badly. To me this seems somewhat unfair. My wife Kate and I felt there was an opportunity to step up and help.”
The tournament kicks off on June 18th behind closed doors and is set to be telecast on the Sky network.
