German tennis player Kevin Krawietz (28), who sensationally won Roland Garros with his partner Andreas Mies, has chosen to work in a supermarket to help the community.
A friend of his told him about a staff shortage at a Munich supermarket because of the coronavirus crisis. So, he decided to call in to help his town. “For a while, I planned to do ordinary work, and the coronavirus gave me the opportunity to accomplish that,” he said, adding: “This way I’m learning extra gratitude.”
Krawietz won Roland Garros alongside Mies last year and is currently the 13th doubles tennis player in the world.
“I’ve been working in the supermarket for 450 euros for a few weeks now. I stuffed shelves with sausage and cheese, classified products, disinfected carts and even worked as a security guard at the entrance,” Krawietz told Der Spiegel.
