NBA News: Anfernee Simons’ aggressive contributions helped the Portland Trail Blazers defeat the Utah Jazz 116-111 on Saturday night. Simons “established the tone” with a career-high 45 points.
With 4.6 seconds left, Simons also successfully blocked a potential 3-point shot to help the Portland Trail Blazers win.
Simons stated, “I wanted to be proactive and set the tone for my colleagues. Let them know right away that I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to win this game for us.”
After Kelly Olynyk’s twisting jump shot, the Jazz led 111-110. They subsequently had an opportunity to level the score at 114, but Simons stole the ball from Jordan Clarkson as he rose to try a 3-point shot from the right angle.
“I simply wanted to catch him before he rose. Quite a hazardous move, but I’m delighted I pulled it off,” Simons chuckled as he remarked.
Simons set a season record and led all Blazers players in scoring with 23 points in the first quarter. Simons scored 22 points against Denver on October 24 in the third quarter.
Given the fury of his offensive skills, Simons had 33 points and the Blazers were up 69-60 at the break. Simmons joins Lillard and CJ McCollum as the third Trail Blazer to reach 45 points in the past ten years. But for him, that wasn’t sufficient.
“I wanted 50 in the back of my mind. However, there will be numerous chances for that. Everything is fine because we won,” said Simons.
Thankfully, other Blazers all-stars also contributed.
Jerami Grant of Portland scored 13 of his team-high 33 points in the final round as the Jazz surrounded Simons. Jusuf Nurkic finished with a total of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
