Eastern Conference Finals: Jimmy Butler of Miami won the award for MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals after helping the Heat defeat the Boston Celtics in Game 7 and advance to the NBA Finals.
Following the festivities, the 33-year-old thanked his teammates and conveyed a message about their ultimate objective.
Butler remarked after receiving the trophy, “I have so much faith in myself and this bunch of people. And the squad that Coach Pat [General Manager Pat Riley], Coach Spo [Head Coach Eril Spoelstra], and everybody else has put together.”
“Coach Buzz Williams advised me to depend on and trust my teammates in everything, and I do the same way with Spo. I have such much confidence to go out there and hoops at a high level because of my teammates.”
“We stayed together as a group, as a team, and we discussed going to get a tough one on the road, and we did just that,” he added. But we’re not content.
“We’re thrilled and content, but we still need four more victories.”
The Denver Nuggets, who easily defeated the Los Angeles Lakers and now have nine extra days of rest before they return to the floor on Thursday night for Game 1 of the NBA finals, will decide whether or not they can pull off those four victories.
One year after the Celtics prevailed in a Game 7 on Miami’s court, the Heat reached the milestone in a nail-biting seven-game contest.
That evening, Butler promised, “We will have enough, and we’re going to be right back in the same situation, and we’re going to get it done.”
It was undoubtedly a terrible week. But the Heat granted his dream, becoming the second No. 8 seed to go to the championship game.
Spoelstra said, “You sometimes have to suffer for the things that you really desire. And this gang has shown to be tenacious. There is still work to be done.”
As they only have three days to rest before heading back to work, his crew won’t have much time to iron out any kinks, but they do have experience.
