Oldest NBA Players: There have been plenty of grizzled veterans who played well into their forties in the NBA. Four of the individuals on this list were former All-Stars who continued playing by taking on supporting roles.
Many of these seasoned veterans of the game have evolved into crucial components for a squad as the league gets younger. Even though they no longer possess the abilities they routinely demonstrated throughout their prime, their wisdom and influence haven’t diminished.
Here are 5 NBA legends who played well into their forties and still had an impact on the sport.
Nat Hickey
In NBA history, Nat Hickey is a name that is all but forgotten. He deserves praise for becoming the NBA’s oldest player.
The Basketball Association of America squad, the Providence Steamrollers, was coached by a Croatian-American (BAA). He participated in two games for the squad in 1948, at which point he turned 45 and became a legitimate league participant.
Hickey, who played in the minor leagues for 15 seasons as a player and two as a manager, is better recognised in the baseball community.
Kevin Willis
In the 1984 NBA Draft, Kevin Willis was selected by the Atlanta Hawks at pick No. 11. He was a member of the draught class that many consider being the best in league history, which also included Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, and Charles Barkley.
Willis played for the Hawks for more than ten years, during which time he was selected for just one All-Star game in 1991–1992. After his time with the Hawks, he started working as a journeyman. Without taking home the league’s top prize, “Devo” moved about a lot.
He didn’t receive a well-deserving NBA championship ring until he moved to San Antonio to play as a reserve big man. He followed in Tim Duncan’s footsteps and assisted the Spurs in winning the 2003 championship.
Robert Parish
Those outstanding Boston Celtics teams of the 1980s had Robert Parish as their fulcrum. He was a member of the renowned front line for Boston that also featured Kevin McHale and the great Larry Bird. These three factors were most responsible for those Celtics teams’ reputation as one of the best ever put together.
When Parish was selected by the Golden State Warriors in 1977, he was already 23 years old. In order to reload, the Warriors dealt “The Chief” to the Celtics in exchange for the first and thirteenth overall picks in the 1980 draught. He was a key contributor to Boston’s first championship since 1976 in his first season with the C’s.
