Boxing News: Carl Froch is one of the ten most recent inductees into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, which took place on Wednesday.
The Nottingham boxer, who had a 12-year professional career and racked up a 33-2 (24) record, was one of the best super-middleweights of his day and held the world titles from the WBC, WBA, and IBF.
Froch excelled with a spectacular last-second victory over Jermain Taylor the following year after winning his first world championship over Jean Pascal in 2008. His only defeats were to Mikkel Kessler, who he later avenged in 2013 to give him two titles in the division, and to the undefeated Andre Ward in the tournament finals for the 168-pound title.
He ended his career after a memorable two-fight duel with George Groves, which saw Froch defeat Groves in the eighth round of their final fight at Wembley Stadium in June 2014 after stopping Groves in the ninth round of their first fight.
Froch, whose post-fight career has included working for Sky Sports, declared that “boxing is the best sport in the world.” It puts both men and women to the test in every way.
“It’s just you and your opponent in that ring, and everything from mentality to discipline to grit to desire is there.”
Along with Froch, two-division champions Timothy Bradley Jr. and Rafael Marquez were inducted into the Hall of Fame for their thrilling fighting techniques, which helped them win “Fight of the Year” awards.
Laura Serrano, the first female boxing Hall of Fame inductee and Mexico’s first female boxing champion, as well as Alicia Ashley, a Jamaican who became the oldest woman to win a title at 48 and boxed until she was 50, were both inducted in the women’s modern category.
The promotional company’s chief operating officer since 2010, Brad Jacobs, and longtime trainer and broadcaster Joe Goossen were chosen in the non-participant category along with Brad Goodman, Top Rank’s matchmaker for nearly four decades.
Tiger Jack Johnson, Pone Kingpetch, and women’s rights pioneer JoAnn Hagen were posthumously inducted, while American boxing commentator Tim Ryan and former HBO television executive Seth Abraham were inducted in the observer category.
The Boxing Writers’ Association of America voted on the inductees.
