British Title Fight: The “career-highest payday” has been given to Fabio Wardley by Frazer Clarke’s promotional firm Boxxer for their British title bout, with promoter Ben Shalom eager to deliver the “biggest fight possible.”
After purse bids were scheduled this week, Clarke was ordered to face Wardley for the British heavyweight title, and a date and location were to be chosen.
Shalom, the CEO of Boxxer, however, acknowledged that he had already made Wardley a “substantial offer” for the Clarke battle.
Ben Shalom stated to Sky Sports “We’ve made a big offer to Fabio Wardley to fight Frazer Clarke.”
“It will be the biggest paycheck of his career, and it might set a purse record for a British title battle.
“We believe Fabio is a free agent, so accepting the challenge should be easy for him if he really wants to fight.
“As always, we’ll collaborate with all parties and promoters to set up the best fights. We want as many people to watch this fight as we can, making it the biggest one yet.
“We are confident that Frazer will become a future British boxing superstar. We want to feature his fights on Sky Sports for both football and boxing fans. It would be absurd to lose that.
“It’s a sizable offer, and we’re happy to hold the fight in September,” said the promoter.
On social media, Wardley posted a statement of his own. He asserted on Twitter that “no they [Boxxer] haven’t,” adding that “they offered me less than I got for my last fight.”
At York Hall in Bethnal Green, Clarke will make his comeback during the same event as Adam Azim vs. Aram Fanyan in the super-lightweight division.
The Olympic bronze medalist stopped Bogdan Dinu in March despite suffering a terrible cut, bringing his flawless professional record to six wins.
