Olympic Boxing: The International Boxing Association (IBA) delegation that met in Yerevan on Sunday voted categorically against allowing a challenge to current president Umar Kremlev’s position, casting more questions on the future of Olympic boxing.
After a 45-minute delay forced on by a power failure in the Armenian capital, an Extraordinary Congress that had been specially assembled supported the Russian to move forward.
The prevailing consensus was that this decision put an end to expectations that the sport would be featured in the Los Angeles 2028 schedule.
After that, Kremlev gave a confident statement in which he seemed to prioritise the organization’s new post-Olympic course, insisting: “We shouldn’t say Olympic boxing, we should say IBA boxing.”
