Undisputed World Lightweight Crown: On October 29, at the OVO Arena in Wembley, Katie Taylor will defend her title as uncontested world lightweight champion against the unbeaten Argentinian Karen Elizabeth Carabajal.
The Irish boxer will defend her WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO titles after narrowly defeating Amanda Serrano on points in the first women’s bout to headline Madison Square Garden in April.
She has never competed in a professional fight on Irish soil, although there were rumours that she might face mixed martial arts icons Holly Holm and Cris Cyborg or Puerto Rico’s Serrano at Croke Park this year.
Instead, Katie Taylor (21-0, 6KOs) will fight a foe who hasn’t competed outside of her native Argentina in the location where she made her professional debut in November 2016.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been almost six years since I made my pro debut there so it’s great to go back now and headline,” Taylor said.
Since becoming pro, Carabajal, who is sponsored by former two-weight world champion Marcos Maidana, has won each of his 19 contests.
“I was very happy when I received the offer to challenge Katie,” said Carabajal, who at 32 is four years younger than Taylor.
“The hard work has paid off. I’m not thinking for a second about giving Katie a win. All the belts will come back to Argentina with me.”
