Heavyweight Match: To avoid further scoring controversies this weekend, Zhilei Zhang is preparing a “perfectly timed” knockout punch to shatter Joe Joyce’s terrifying reputation.
After losing an IBF championship final eliminator to Filip Hrgovic by unanimous decision in August, the Chinese heavyweight reacted with shock. Nevertheless, ‘Big Bang’ Zhang may return to world title contention with a shocking victory over Joe Joyce in London on Saturday night.
Joyce has 15 victories, including 14 knockouts, earning him the title of WBO mandatory challenger for unified champion Oleksandr Usyk’s WBO belt. Yet, Zhang is not a bit afraid of the British fighter.
Zhang stated to Sky Sports that in order to be the best, one must defeat the best. “Being a global champion includes having this aspiration.
“If a chance arises, I never shy away from a challenge.”
Zhang said, “I don’t believe that a fighter’s chin can be tough enough to handle a precisely timed punch,” in reference to Joyce’s well-known resilience.
In spite of the fiercely contested loss to Hrgovic on the undercard of Usyk’s victory over Anthony Joshua in their rematch, Zhang dismissed any lingering worries about unfair scorecards in Joyce’s own country.
“I’m not concerned about it. I use my fists to speak.
“There is no reason to be concerned about that.
“It’s my responsibility to persuade the judges that I won.”
After this month’s points victory over Jermaine Franklin, Joshua has stated that he would not fight again until December, but Zhang still hopes to force his way into the future plans of his former amateur adversary, who defeated him on the way to winning the Olympic gold at London 2012.
“Sure, I would still adore a battle with AJ. But now it’s in his hands,” Zhang remarked.
Joyce: Zhang vs. Fury is “risky,” but Usyk or Fury will win
The heavyweight title battle against Usyk or Tyson Fury this year would follow a victory over Joyce’s fight against Zhang on Saturday, according to Joyce, who called Zhang’s opponent “risky” but hoped he could withstand the challenge.
Joyce told Sky Sports, “It’s a hazardous fight, but it’s thrilling.
“He is a large guy. Nonetheless, I’m a huge guy. It’s going to be a fantastic fight between two big dudes.
“I had the option of waiting and fighting more easily, but I reasoned, “Why not take the test and keep prepared?”
