Smith vs Eubank Jr Rematch: After Liam Smith’s stunning victory over Chris Eubank Jr. last weekend, promoter Ben Shalom thinks he can put on a “dream” card at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium later this year.
Football enthusiast Smith, who participated in a local game the day after defeating Eubank Jr., as well as unified champion Natasha Jonas and promising young player Adam Azim, are ardent Liverpool supporters.
If Liam’s brother Callum Smith, who will ultimately be the required opponent for the WBC light-heavyweight title, were able to attend, the conditions might be favourable for a sizable boxing card at Anfield.
“I believe there are numerous justifications for considering the show. I have no doubt that Callum would want to fight on Liam Smith’s undercard. She’s had dreams about Jonas getting into a violent fight as well. Adam Azim, a devoted supporter of Liverpool, appears to be the next great thing in British boxing. Thus, Anfield appears to be the location, the goal,” said Shalom.
“We must communicate with the football team. We will make it happen if it is possible. It’ll be incredible since boxing has never been practised there, and that was the initial goal. We would make sure to obtain it if at all possible.”
Despite all of their boxing success, the Smith brothers have never competed at the stadium of their football team.
They certainly are a phenomenon, don’t they? said Shalom. “Fighting at Anfield was one objective they were unable to achieve. They now have a chance to succeed, and it might be great, with “Beefy” guiding the way and Callum Smith staying put.
“That is the goal and the objective,” Shalom continued. “That’s where we’d like to do it if Chris [Eubank] wins the rematch.”
However, Liam Smith is not the only fighter that might face Eubank Jr. at this time.
Shalom stated, “Liam Smith has kept his word, possibly in a more damaging way than he had intended. It now plans spectacular fights you wouldn’t have expected.”
“He has a tonne of choices, including Kell Brook. Given how talented Liam Smith is, he could compete against even “GGG” [Gennadiy Golovkin] at 160 pounds.
“The Kell Brook bout is a huge fight since it’s likely to be at their respective natural weights of 154 pounds. However, Liam Smith has accomplished quite a bit by lifting 160 pounds and defeating a well-known fighter at the international level.
“Prior to their retirement, fighters hardly ever have the opportunity to compete and demonstrate their talent. That occurs so frequently,” He continued.
