Joshua vs Fury: Barry Hearn thinks that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s long-awaited heavyweight matchup could happen at the end of 2019.
Fury, 34, had stated that it would be a “travesty” if he did not spar with Joshua before they hung up their gloves after negotiations on a fight fell down in October. Fury instead chose to defend his WBC title against Derek Chisora a week ago.
Hearn thinks a mega-fight with Joshua may come after Fury’s unification battle with Oleksandr Usyk, who now owns the IBF, IBO, WBO, and WBA belts after defeating Joshua twice.
According to the CEO of Matchroom, Sky Sports News: “Anthony is currently in the United States getting his head in the correct place and testing out some new coaches. In 2023, he plans to be active.
“Dillian [Whyte] may be included, in my opinion. There are a few other names, like Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder. It is up to him.
“He is in the middle of a career decision. Another defeat is beyond his means.
“The year 2023 will be highly fascinating for the entire heavyweight category. Joe Joyce ranks among the best; “The Juggernaut” is a challenge. Daniel Dubois is returning.
“Tyson Fury is undoubtedly the best in the world, period. Although he will take every blow, I believe he is very close to having the Usyk bout declared over. That is both a hazardous and excellent fight.
“In my opinion, Usyk is the world’s best heavyweight. Tyson won’t concur with me. Let’s investigate.
“AJ vs. Fury is the matchup that we’d all like to witness someday. You’ll hear rumours like Tyson saying the bout won’t take place and Joshua saying he’d rather face Dillian White. Forget about it all.
For all the marbles, this war must take place, and I believe it does at the end of 2023.
