Ashes 2023: The ODI series against South Africa in January 2023 marked the return to international cricket for England fast bowler Jofra Archer. The seamer was in top form as he took a magnificent 6-fer in the third one-day international of the series to save his team from a rout. When the 28-year-old fast bowler’s future seemed bright, he suffered an elbow ache during the first IPL 2023 match between the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
His team’s sixth game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw him return to the playing XI after missing four games due to injury. For MI’s most recent game against Gujarat Titans (GT), the speedster was once again sidelined, raising concerns about his fitness. Mark Wood, another member of the England team, has backed Archer at this trying time in his career, saying that he’s a champion player and will come back to be one once more.
“I truly feel bad for Jofra and have a lot of sympathy for him there. When you experience a minor setback, things seem to be just getting back on track. He’s a champion player, and I have no doubt that he’ll win the title once more when he returns,” Wood was quoted as saying by India Today.
During his hiatus from the IPL, Archer reportedly headed to Belgium earlier this month for a minor procedure on his right elbow. The quick bowler, however, angrily refuted the allegations in a Tweet and charged the media with fabricating stories for their own gain.
“It’s crazy to publish an article without checking the facts and without my permission. Whoever the reporter is, shame on you. You take advantage of a player at a stressful time for your own gain. People like you are the problem,” Archer tweeted.
