BBL 2022-23: Jhye Richardson, the pace spearhead for the Perth Scorchers, injured his hamstring during the team’s most recent Big Bash League 2022-23 match against the Sydney Thunder on January 4. After delivering four deliveries in his final over of the game, Jhye got up and left the field.
The top bowler of the Scorchers, according to head coach Adam Voges, will be out for two to three weeks after what at first appeared to be a minor worry.
Although Scorchers are presently in first place on the standings after winning five of their first seven group-stage games, their recent loss to Thunder and Jhye’s injury have hurt their chances of defending their BBL championship. With 15 wickets in just seven innings and an economy rate of 6.75 so far this season, the 26-year-old quick has been in superb form for the Scorchers.
Last season, Jhye was limited to just two games because he missed most of the competition due to a hamstring ailment. Voges acknowledged that the player injured the same hamstring during the game against Thunder, and they will go cautiously.
We may need to go cautiously because, regrettably, it’s the same hamstring that he injured six to twelve months before. We have a top-notch medical staff, and I will trust them to work hard to help Jhye so that we can get him back in the park as soon as possible, Voges told reporters.
Jhye Richardson will be replaced by Lance Morris for the Scorchers
Despite Jhye’s injury, the Scorchers won’t be very concerned because Australian pacer Lance Morris will be available for their upcoming match against the Brisbane Heat on January 7.
The 24-year-old was called up for Australia’s third Test match against South Africa, which is now taking place at the Sydney Cricket Ground. However, Australia discharged the player on January 4 because he was left out of the starting lineup.
Voges stated that the Scorchers intend to unleash Lance against the Brisbane Heat because he can offer real pace.
“He put a lot of effort into getting ready for Test match cricket. I am aware that he has been holding a white ball in Sydney for the past few days. No one really likes pace, but he’ll provide some real pace. We’re hoping to unleash him tomorrow, but if not, it will most likely happen in Brisbane in a few days,” Voges said.
