BCCI Chief Selector: Chetan Sharma, the chairman of the All-India Selection Committee for the BCCI, is said to have resigned from his position in light of the current sting operation’s controversy. Sharma most recently took part in a Zee News undercover investigation that has rocked Indian cricket.
The 57-year-old made several other contentious claims in the film, including that there was a severe ego conflict between the management and the Indian cricket team. Following the sting operation, the head of the selection committee has experienced significant criticism from fans over the comments made about prominent cricketers for the national team, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
It is understood that Chetan resigned from his position and that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah accepted his resignation. Previously, Chetan was fired following India’s abrupt withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in Australia, but strangely, he was promptly rehired.
To have just one white-ball captain, Chetan Sharma, Kohli had to be removed.
He made several comments about the white-ball leadership during the undercover operation. In order to have one white-ball leader, Chetan and his committee decided to remove Kohli from the captaincy position.
“Selectors are responsible for removing a captain from the team. He was ousted from the ODI captaincy because we only wanted one captain for white-ball matches. Even he (Kohli) is aware that this is standard practice. The selectors decided to remove Virat from the ODI captaincy as well after he indicated that he was giving up the T20I captaincy,” Sharma said in the widely shared video.
He also discussed the criticism the management received from the supporters when Sanju Samson was left off the starting lineup in some games.
Chetan was heard saying in the video, “If you don’t add Sanju Samson, on Twitter people brush us off.”
Even though the resignation has not yet been officially confirmed by the BCCI, Jay Shah was anticipated to make a significant choice over Chetan Sharma’s dismissal after the sting operation.
