Indian Cricket Team Selector: The Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI), the governing body of Indian cricket, has requested applications for a position on the senior men’s selection committee. The notification for the aforementioned designation was issued on the board’s official website and was then shared on their social media accounts. Notably, the deadline for candidates to apply for the coveted position has been extended until June 30. Furthermore, the governing board will interview the shortlisted individuals before making a final choice.
Surprisingly, the BCCI has made no mention of the head of the selection committee in their top position announcement. As a result, the present chairman, Shiv Sundar Das, may continue to serve as chairman in the future. In terms of playing experience, Das has played in 23 Tests for India. While the other members, Salil Ankola (West), Subroto (Central), and S Sharath (South), do not have much on-field experience.
Furthermore, if the BCCI is unable to get a major name from the North Zone, former Indian wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra is touted to be another option, according to the PTI. Notably, when Chetan Sharma was re-appointed, Ratra was examined by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Among them, another intriguing candidate is the famed BCCI panel commentator, Vivek Razdan, who has a wealth of experience watching local cricket while working on the air.
“I would be interested if approached, and it would be an honour to serve Indian cricket. However, I believe that for a selector’s position, one should only apply if told to apply,” Razdan was reported by News18 as saying.
Maninder Singh, a former Indian spinner who had applied twice for the role, was also questioned in the same loop. Singh, however, did not receive a call for additional screening following the initial round of interviews.
The BCCI has finished the selection process for the Women’s Selection Committee and the Junior Cricket Committee.
In another round of appointments, the BCCI has announced a vacancy on the Women’s Selection Committee. Furthermore, applications for the Junior Cricket Committee were solicited by the main cricket regulatory body. Mr Jatin Paranjpe, Ms Sulakshana Naik, and Mr Ashok Malhotra, who led the CAC, conducted the screening for the above-mentioned openings.
Notably, the advisory committee unanimously selected Mr VS Thilak Naidu and Ms Shayama Dey Shaw for the Women and Junior cricket committees, respectively.
