Punjab Cricket Association: Days after former India spinner Harbhajan Singh said that “illegal actions” were being carried out under the existing administration, Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal announced his resignation as president of the Punjab Cricket Association. Chahal, who had assumed leadership in May, announced his resignation to PTI. Harbhajan, who serves as PCA’s chief advisor, made accusations of malfeasance in the association earlier this month. However, Harbhajan omitted the names of the officeholders from his letter, which was distributed to PCA members and the organization’s district units.
The crux of the issue, according to Harbhajan’s letter, is that PCA is working hard to induct 150 members with voting rights in order to tip the scale in their favour. These inductions are being made without the approval of the apex council/general body or without consulting the Chief Advisor (Singh).
“As a result, these violate the PCA’s rules, the BCCI constitution, and the ethical standards set by sports organisations.
In order to conceal their illegal acts, they don’t hold official PCA meetings and make all decisions on their own, in accordance with their own self-interest. The main accusation against Chahal was the enrollment of members who were unlawful voters without the Apex Council’s approval.
The appointment of his own chartered firm as the PCA’s official auditor, which amounted to a conflict of interest, is the other alleged misconduct.
Selling tickets for the Mohali T20 International match versus Australia was the third offence.
In a letter, Harbhajan complained about Chahal’s alleged “illegal acts” to the members and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
“I was absolutely certain that I would not put up with any corruption or poor leadership in PCA. There shouldn’t be any highhandedness or corruption while I’m in charge “said Harbhajan to PTI.
