RCB Captain: Chris Gayle, a former cricketer for the West Indies, recalled a remarkable act performed by Virat Kohli in 2011 during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Gayle scored his first century in his first IPL season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He has scored a record six centuries in the IPL, which is the most in the league’s rich history.
In an episode of IPL Bold Diaries, Gayle revealed that Kohli assisted him in scoring a century in his first season with RCB while speaking with AB de Villiers, a former teammate. Gayle, who is known as “The Universal Boss,” stated that the former RCB skipper blocked a few balls for him when he was batting on 98 to help him reach three figures.
Gayle stated, “I remember Virat Kohli kept blocking a few balls when I was on 98 in the first match, he did that so I could get to my first IPL hundred. Gayle was referring to the first match.”
The incident occurred during the match between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gayle’s first IPL team. Chris Gayle can be seen batting on 98 in a video that went viral on social media, and RCB only needed two runs from 14 balls to win. Kohli, who was batting with Gayle, was seen blocking some balls to make sure that Gayle scored a lot. Gayle hit a boundary in the first ball of the 18th over to give RCB a nine-wicket victory over KKR.
Gayle’s two seasons with KKR were average. He was also dropped from the West Indies squad. At that point, when his prospects appeared to be bleak, the RCB appointed him as Dirk Nannes’s replacement. He revealed that the vibe and energy were different when he joined RCB.
Gayle is the most influential RCB player in the franchise’s history thanks to his 3163 runs. With 4965 runs from 142 matches and an average of 39.72, he ranks eighth on the IPL’s run-scoring list.
