Captaincy Tag: As the Kolkata Knight Riders attempted to move on from their leadership problem, on March 27, star batter Nitish Rana was named their new skipper. Fans were somewhat taken aback when Rana was named captain because the player lacked leadership experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Yet, Rana has uncovered that he is prepared to assume additional liability and disregarded captaincy-label tension on Walk 28.
In the most recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the 29-year-old batter captained Delhi, which won eight out of 12 games. However, Rana’s leadership of one of the best IPL teams is likely to present additional challenges. On Tuesday, March 28, in the official press conference, Rana attacked every discussion regarding additional pressure. He said that he won’t take extra strain because of the captaincy tag and added that he cherishes taking liabilities.
“I have been a member of the leadership group for the past two to three years, so leadership is nothing new for me. This time, I’ve been given the captaincy title. I have been in a leadership position for the past two to three years, so the tag alone will not cause me to feel any additional pressure. It’s also bad for my game. I don’t think anything new has emerged. I love assuming liability,” Rana said on March 28.
“There will also be pressure after ten days. A tag is a captaincy. At the point when you work on something without precedent for life, there will be a touch of strain. I have participated in more than 100 games as a batter. In the first few deliveries, a player will be afraid to get out,” Rana added.
I prefer not to follow anyone: Nitish Rana
Rana has been a Knight Rider for the past five seasons and has played under the direction of Dinesh Karthik and Shreyas Iyer, among others. When Rana was asked about his favourite captain, he said that he would lead the team in his own way and promised that his team would win the IPL 2023.
“I enjoy taking on responsibility because there is a responsibility. We are all aware that Shreyas Iyer suffered an unfortunate injury. It is extremely unfortunate that we learned at the last minute that we did not have such a senior and important player. But the team looks good if you ignore it. Additionally, I believe that the correct outcomes will result from the course of action we are taking with this team.”
“I prefer not to follow anyone (an idol) like that. If I try to follow someone in terms of captaincy, I will lose myself and my individuality, so I want to do it my way. With just six wins, Kolkata Knight Riders finished seventh in the IPL points table,” Rana said.
I want to captain in my way and take the team ahead in my own style. Rana struggled all season, allowing just 361 runs in 14 innings and only two hits with more than 50 runs. In KKR’s first game against Punjab Kings on April 1 in Mohali, Rana’s captaincy will be put to the test.
