Cricket Live: Veteran Australian pacer Peter Siddle re-signed with Victoria for a two-year deal after spending the previous two years with Tasmania. He will remain in the southern state until he is 40. Remarkably, the 38-year-old began his relationship with Victoria in 2005. He played in 67 Test matches and 20 ODIs for Australia in the interim, although he didn’t decide to leave Victoria until 2020.
Siddle was voted a co-winner of the Ricky Ponting Medal as the Tigers’ finest cricketer for the summer of 2021–2022, in his first season with Tasmani. Later, the pacer considered giving up the sport, but in the end, he agreed to another contract with Victoria.
David Hussey, the head of male cricket for Cricket Victoria, said that the player can very well lead the young pacers at the camp since he has the calibre and the experience up his sleeve.
“It’s fantastic to have a player with Peter Siddle’s calibre and experience back to complement a young fast-bowling team. He’ll be a fantastic role model for each of them. It’s wonderful that Peter can complete his career at home because he is a very passionate Victorian,” according to Hussey, who was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
On the other side, after 14 years with the squad, veteran spinner Jon Holland, 35, was fired by Victoria. Speaking on the subject, Hussey said that while it is never easy to let go of a player, there are some painful choices that the club management must make.
“There are always tough choices in contract negotiations, and I want to thank all the players who are leaving our team for their dedication to Victorian cricket. Jon Holland and Aaron Finch, who have both made huge contributions to our programme, our squads, and the success Victoria has seen during their very successful careers, deserve special acknowledgement. Failing to do so would be negligent on my part. In this period of Victorian cricket, they both have a particular place,” Hussey continued.
