Cricket News: India has quite a challenging year ahead of them despite having one of the toughest squads in cricket. It would be the BCCI’s top goal to maintain optimum fitness for every player because the World Test Championship final against Australia is quickly approaching and the ODI World Cup is slated to be staged in the latter half of 2023.
Former coach Ravi Shastri and Indian captain Rohit Sharma had previously expressed concern about the rising number of injured athletes, attributing such occurrences to poor workload management in leagues like the Indian Premier League. Numerous significant players, including Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah, are presently out of the running due to injury. In response to growing worries, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal spoke out on the crucial topic.
“The issue in our nation is that everybody who makes money, whether they are a business or an individual, is viewed suspiciously. Although Virat Kohli has been playing in the IPL for so long, he has never experienced an injury. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja never suffered any injuries. Does it relate to the IPL in any way?” In an interview with The Indian Express, Dhumal remarked
“But, Shreyas Iyer’s injury was not caused by the IPL. We begin blaming IPL for everything and everything simply because they profit from it. All sport has their share of injuries. Our top badminton players are hurt. They are not IPL players. There is a tonne of international talents participating in the IPL,” he added.
Board must express its position there: Ravi Shastri
Former India coach Ravi Shastri spoke out on the topic of workload management in March 2023. He believed that the BCCI should speak out against playing too many games because player fitness is crucial for the team to perform at its best.
“You need to offer a specific rest and play that much cricket. even if IPL is involved. The Board must speak up and tell the franchises, “Listen, we need you. India requires them. If he refrains from playing those matches, it will be beneficial for India,” In an interview with Sports Yaari, Ravi Shastri remarked.
