Cricket News: In order to win the Test series in Pakistan, England head coach Brendon McCullum says his team won’t stray from their “aggressive” brand of play.
After McCullum was named coach and Ben Stokes was named captain during the home summer, England won six of seven Test matches. This success was attributed to the team’s positive playing style, known as “Bazball,” which helped them defeat South Africa, New Zealand, and India.
For the first time since 2005, England is touring Pakistan to play red-ball cricket. McCullum is unsure of how that approach will fare there, but he insists there will be no room for timidity, saying his team has an “obligation to entertain.”
The first match of the three-match series will be played in Rawalpindi on Thursday, and it will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Cricket.
McCullum told reporters on Monday, “We are looking forward to coming over here and playing an entertaining style of cricket that hopefully ends in results, whether that’s in our favour or in Pakistan’s favor.”
We feel a duty to make sure people are entertained because test cricket hasn’t always been as popular as it once was. We have the chance to do what we do best and demonstrate our abilities on the playing field.
Positive cricket fosters the development of talent.
Although it won’t always work, we have noticed that that approach can help you develop your talent. In this game, we have the power to choke ourselves with the need for outcomes and stifle the ability for skill to shine.
“We think that by trying to approach it with a positive, aggressive attitude, the skill can emerge. We have recently experienced some success. How it will perform on the road is still uncertain.
“We will definitely respect the conditions, but if we have the chance to play aggressive cricket, we’ll try to take it.”
