Cricket News: Neil Killeen has been named the fast bowling coach for the men’s national squad by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Jon Lewis will be replaced by Killeen, who will begin working on the England men’s pathway programmes on January 18.
After 30 years, the 47-year-old breaks his long-standing ties to Durham, his native county, in order to fill Lewis’ vacancy after he resigned from his post in November. It is thought that Killeen would concentrate on training and preparing the upcoming generation to become highly skilled professional cricketers.
“I’m excited to tackle a new challenge after being appointed Elite Pace Bowling Coach with the ECB. As ESPNcricinfo reported, “It’s an exciting moment to be joining the ECB since there is a lot of fast-bowling talent and coaching around the country that I’m looking forward to working with in order to retain England’s strong contingent of pace bowlers in the future.”
“I’d want to extend a sincere appreciation to everyone at Durham for their support over the last 30 years, both as a player and a coach. It has been a fantastic ride. Also, a big thank you to all the members for their unwavering support over the course of my career. In the future, I’m eager to come back and watch with them. It has been a privilege to represent the club, and I want to wish them future success,” he stated.
Before he began coaching, Killeen played in over 350 matches in a variety of formats between 1992 and 2010. In his most recent position, he also served as Durham’s assistant lead and head bowling coach. Ben Stokes, the Test captain, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse, and Matthew Potts were all developed at Durham under Killeen’s guidance. In the past, he has also worked with England’s ODI team, England Lions, and England U19s.
