Cricket News: The 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, which begins on February 10 in South Africa, will feature India’s Harmanpreet Kaur as captain. Indian captain Kaur spoke candidly about how former men’s team captains Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni aided her in growing as a leader before the competition.
They led the Indian cricket team to new heights. Ganguly and Dhoni are two of the greatest leaders Indian cricket has ever produced. India won three ICC trophies under Dhoni, while Ganguly developed a team throughout his tenure that could compete against the best cricketing nations in the world.
The Women in Blue captain discussed how the two sports superstars affected her and added that she had gained a lot of knowledge from viewing old Dhoni footage.
Dhoni and Ganguly have had a significant impact on my life: Mr Harmanpreet Kaur
“We all know how shrewd MS Dhoni was on the pitch. You may still learn a lot from Dhoni if you watch his older match videos today. Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni have taught me a much. I always strive to do little things that will benefit the team and me on the field. When we talk about captaincy, they have been quite important in my life,” she said in Times of India.
“I definitely pay attention to how they managed the team. Men’s cricket in India was expanding at the time Sourav was the team’s captain. The way he (Sourav) was modifying the ambience (in the locker room) and believing in and supporting the players,” she said.
India will play their opening World Cup match on February 12 against bitter rival Pakistan, but they will also play two exhibition matches on February 6 and February 8 against Australia and Bangladesh, respectively. West Indies, England, and Ireland make up Group 2, together with India and Pakistan. The Women in Blue would be attempting to qualify and advance to the illustrious World Cup semifinals.
