Cricket News: Imam-ul-Haq, the Pakistani opener, has said that he once wanted to confront his uncle Inzamam-ul-Haq over the unfair comparisons that people make between the two of them. Imam acknowledged that he experienced frustration at the beginning of his career for the same reason.
The 27-year-old has admitted that he felt a lot of pressure because he was held to a lot of expectations because he is Inzamam’ nephew. Imam said that he was chosen for the national squad only after putting in a lot of effort at the local level and not through the influence of anyone.
Imam said to Pakistan Cricket, “If I’m being honest, I felt I should tell chachu (Inzamam), ‘what was my mistake?'” “However, some things enter your life voluntarily. Despite what people say, I didn’t handle the situation effectively. I had no choice but to go along with the flow. I arrived after a protracted process as well; when I was first selected for the team, I had played in 45 first-class matches, competed in two U19 World Cups, and had an average score of 50 in the Qaid-e-Azam trophy.”
The southpaw also expressed his gratitude to Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, for his early-career moral support.
“I won’t lie; at first, I couldn’t manage the strain. I was at a loss for what to do. Babar is also worth mentioning at this point. He was a major factor in my support. We engaged in a lot of cricket play. Likewise, if he had any doubts, we used to talk about them as well. Everyone in my family is a fighter, and we don’t easily give up. Therefore, I persisted in working hard, and I was surrounded by kind people,” stated Imam.
Imam just made a game-saving 96 in the second innings of the first Test match against New Zealand. Now, he would be aiming to deliver once more when Pakistan plays the Kiwis in the second game in Karachi beginning on January 2.
