Cricket News: During their upcoming trip to Bangladesh in March and April, the senior men’s team of Ireland will play its first-ever Test match. In addition to the one Test match, the Ireland tour of Bangladesh will also feature three ODIs and the equivalent number of T20Is. They will be visiting Bangladesh for the first time since 2008.
On March 12, the Irish squad is scheduled to go to Bangladesh to compete in a warm-up match. The subsequent ODI series will pit the visitors against the Bangla Tigers. The dates of the three ODI matches are March 18, 20, and 23 in Sylhet.
After that, the white-ball portion of the trip will travel to Chattogram for three T20 Internationals planned for March 27, 29, and 31. The one-off Test match will take place in Dhaka from April 4 to April 8.
Ireland has played in just three Tests so far, and the nation hasn’t been in the format since 2019. The team is eagerly anticipating the challenge of playing Test cricket in Asian conditions, according to Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom.
“We are excited to announce Ireland’s men’s seven-match, a multi-format trip of Bangladesh, and we appreciate the BCB’s cooperation and assistance in approving this month-long tour,” according to Deutrom.
“There has been a strong on-field rivalry established between the two teams since their first meeting in 1997, and we anticipate what appears to be another exciting series. The final game on the calendar, which is Ireland’s return to Test cricket, will undoubtedly be of particular interest to both players and fans. Our squad will surely have a difficult time adjusting to Asian playing conditions, but given that we will be playing a lot of cricket in Asia in the next years, this experience will be crucial to the growth of our players.”
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, chief executive of the BCB, stated that the two boards enjoy friendly connections and that the tour was made feasible despite the difficulties posed by a busy cricketing schedule.
Following the series against India and England, Ireland’s visit to Bangladesh will be a thrilling event during our home season, according to Chowdhury. “Despite the difficulties of a hectic international schedule, the BCB and Cricket Ireland have a friendly and solid relationship, and the two boards have worked together to organise this bilateral tour. This also expresses the BCB’s dedication to the ICC FTP.”
