Cricket News: Moeen Ali, a seasoned English all-rounder who is currently captaining the Sharjah Warriors in the inaugural International League T20, spoke up about his experience with the four-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings. He also discussed the benefits of playing with MS Dhoni and picking his brain as a player and captain.
Moeen Ali experienced his first IPL match when the Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased him during the 2018 IPL auction. But before the 2021 season began, the team released him, and the dynamic all-rounder was then signed by the Chennai Super Kings. He was a crucial member of the team that won the championship that year, becoming the first Englishman to get the prized award.
Ali expressed his gratitude to the club management for supporting him at No. 3 despite the fact that he was batting significantly lower down the order for the national team when speaking about his role and experience with the Chennai-based franchise.
“It significantly impacted my worldwide career. CSK moved me up to No. 3 from where I batted for England at 7 (and 8 in Test matches). I received support and accountability from the franchise. The important thing is that they hired me and kept me. You receive support from CSK, and the franchise is run in an absolutely great way. Everyone agrees that this franchise is the best,” During an interview with Cricbuzz, the Englishman said.
The Chepauk and its audience are what I am most anticipating: Moeen Ali
The 35-year-old all-rounder has gained a lot of knowledge through working with the influential MS Dhoni at CSK. In a group that more closely resembles a family, the Englishman admitted to learning a lot from the Indian great. He is also eager to team up with his Test captain Ben Stokes, who was signed by the team for a club-record sum during the 2023 IPL auction.
“I spoke a lot and spent some time with MS. He responds when I query him about being a captain. That makes it very transparent. He taught me a lot as a captain. He has taught me a lot through his batting, too. CSK teaches you a lot. While I can’t speak for other teams, CSK is a family-run organisation. I am excited about this season. They held a fantastic auction. The main thing I am looking forward to is the Chepauk and its fans, as well as playing with the new players (they bought Ben Stokes),” he added.
