Cricket News: Shahid Afridi, the temporary chief selector of the Pakistani men’s national team, has stated that his goal is to provide Pakistan with enough alternatives so that they can be in a strong position to field two teams if necessary. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) nominated Afridi as the temporary chair of the men’s national selection committee last week.
Due to the absence of frontline pacers Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, who was ruled out due to injuries, during Pakistan’s home Test series against England last month, the bowling unit was severely exposed, leading to Afridi’s comments.
In the past, there seemed to be a communication gap: Afridi Shahid
Shahid Afridi stated to the media, as reported by the Hindustan Times, “I want to build two teams for Pakistan before my term finishes in order to strengthen bench strength.”
In addition, the former Pakistan captain added that there have always been significant communication gaps between the selection committee and the players, which he only learned about after interacting with specific players like Haris Sohail and Fakhar Zaman, among others, directly.
“I believe that there was a communication gap in the past. By talking to the players one-on-one, I learned about their problems. I chatted with Haris (Sohail) and Fakhar personally (Zaman). I think the players and the selecting committee ought to be able to communicate directly.”
Afridi also supported Babar Azam, the captain of the just concluded Karachi Test team, in his audacious decision to declare the innings and give New Zealand a target of just 138 runs in the fourth innings, which resulted in a draw.
We will support Babar Azam because he is the Pakistani team’s rock. He made a wise choice in yesterday’s declaration,” he continued.
When Pakistan plays the Kiwis in the second and final Test match at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi beginning on January 2, they will now be aiming for a series victory.
