U19 Women’s T20 WC: On Day 4 of the competition, New Zealand secured their second victory while Rwanda scored a historic first victory in the U-19 T20 World Cup.
On Day 4 (Tuesday, January 17) of the U19 Women’s T20 Wc, which is currently taking place in South Africa, Rwanda secured their illustrious first victory, and New Zealand secured their second victory.
Rwanda overcame Zimbabwe in a crucial encounter to improve its chances of continuing to the Super Six phase of the competition. Merveille Uwase (18 from 33) and Cynthia Tuyizere (30 from 44) shared a partnership of 49 runs while Rwanda focused on keeping their wickets in the first 10 overs.
Gisele Ishimwe, the captain, led them to a decent score of 119/8 by playing aggressively and scoring 34 runs off 23 balls.
They were able to hold the lead and defeat Zimbabwe, a neighbouring country in Africa, in a historic victory. Henriette Ishimwe’s hat-trick and four wickets in four straight deliveries in the 18th over of Zimbabwe’s innings were the main factors in Rwanda’s 39-run victory over Zimbabwe.
This is Rwanda’s first victory in a major ICC competition
Ireland played New Zealand in a considerably more one-sided match in which the former was far superior to the adversary. On a good batting surface, Ireland’s collapse helped New Zealand to easily win.
Four wickets were lost by Ireland’s batsmen during the powerplay overs, with two of them falling to poor running between the wickets. The batters were already having problems after losing captain Amy Hunter to injury.
After such a terrible start, they were bundled out for 74 and never really recovered. The medium pacer Natasha Codyre, who had figures of 3/6, was the most successful New Zealand bowler.
When pursuing such a simple aim, New Zealand was in no way disturbed. They finished the chase in less than seven overs, which greatly improved their net run rate. They have already made it into the Super Six and will like to advance farther with a victory in their upcoming match.
