IPL 2023: The fast bowling phenom Kamlesh Nagarkoti will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) due to a back issue, dealing another major blow to Delhi Capitals. The right-arm pacer, who has yet to play for Delhi Capitals this season, will now sit out the entire campaign, according to a report from PTI.
Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg, two domestic athletes, joined Delhi’s training camp on Wednesday, April 19, as the team is anticipated to sign a replacement for Nagarkoti soon.
Although he was selected by Kolkata Knight Riders at the 2018 edition’s auction, Nagarkoti, 23, has only made 12 appearances because to back problems that have plagued him in previous IPL seasons. After missing the entire 2019 season due to a back ailment, he made his IPL debut in 2020.
The kid hasn’t been at his best lately, despite some great flashes here and there. With only seven wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, the Rajasthan pacer has had a dismal season in domestic competitions. He hasn’t participated in any competitive cricket in 2023 and hasn’t been able to make the starting lineup for the Delhi Capitals in any of their first five games.
The speed options available to the Delhi Capitals are plentiful, with international stars Anrich Nortje and Mustafizur Rahman routinely appearing with Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Chetan Sakariya. Despite the fact that Ishant Sharma and Lungi Ngidi are both on the Delhi Capitals’ bench, Nagarkoti’s injury may be detrimental to the team.
Khaleel, Mukesh, and Nortje have only managed to capture nine wickets, which is a poor bowling effort considering Delhi’s standing in the league table. With just six combined wickets, the spin tandem of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel has also been ineffective, and with Nagarkoti absent, the team is left with no other viable options.
The David Warner-led team has played five games so far in IPL 2023 without a victory. On Thursday, April 20, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, they will play host to the seventh-placed Kolkata Knight Riders with the goal of picking up their first victory of the season.
