2nd T20I: India staged a remarkable comeback to overcome Australia in the second T20I at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Friday after losing the first T20I due to rain. With India needing to reach 91 runs in eight overs, captain Rohit Sharma led his team closer to the goal by scoring 46 runs off 20 balls while being unbeaten. Dinesh Karthik smashed a six and a boundary off consecutive deliveries to lead India to a series-levelling victory before the last game in Hyderabad on Sunday. Nine runs were needed off the penultimate over.
Since his return to the Indian team earlier this year, Karthik has primarily played the finisher’s position, and the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter hasn’t let the management down.
When former India head coach Shastri questioned whether it was an “easy game,” Karthik responded in a humorous way during the post-game interview.
“Simple game, DK? 2 balls, piece of cake. 6, 4, thank you very much,” Shastri said in his typical flamboyant style.
Karthik responded by reminding Shastri that the former India head coach had previously stated that “it’s never an easy game.”
“You are the one who taught me to say, ‘it’s never an easy game’, Ravi bhai! Don’t go back on that, please. It’s a hard game, you know how it is!” Karthik replied.
Karthik returned to the team earlier this year after being missing from the scene for about three years.
With his performance for the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the IPL this year, the veteran won over the management.
The Indian T20 World Cup team, which will compete in Australia starting on October 16, has also chosen Dinesh Karthik in the team.
