Women’s Ashes in 2023: Ashleigh Gardner, an Australian all-rounder, believes she can win the Women’s Ashes in 2023. While there is one Test, three ODIs, and an equal number of T20Is in the series, the visiting side has won one Test and one T20I so far, and because it is a multiformat Ashes and points are added for wins in different formats, the winner will be determined after the tour concludes based on the total points accumulated.
Meanwhile, despite Australia’s dominance on the current tour, Gardner intends to improve with the objective of winning all of the trip’s games. Surprisingly, the Australian team is yet to be defeated in 39 limited-overs matches.
“I think there are always things to improve on; we knew there would be some teething issues coming from the longest format to the shortest format,” Gardner told reporters in London.
“I believe there is always an opportunity for progress in the field… We feel like we can definitely out-field teams, and that wins games; the best fielding team usually wins,” she added.
Despite leading the series, the Australian all-rounder feels that both teams’ lineups are well-balanced. Furthermore, with several games remaining in the series, Ashleigh Gardner believes that making better judgements when batting whether players are set on the crease or otherwise will impact the outcome of the Women’s Ashes.
“But, with both bat and ball, I think it’s just being really clear on different plans and having more than one plan as well if (batters) get going. And, right from the bat, we’re probably making better judgements because we know what they’re going to throw at us. I think both teams are fairly evenly poised with our line-ups, and I think we’ve played really good cricket,” the 26-year-old said.
In the Ashes 2023, England’s men’s and women’s teams are equal.
Despite the fact that the host team must win the remaining matches, the Australian women have gained a six-point lead in the points table. In an odd coincidence, both the England men and women are staring down the barrel, knowing that they must win their next game in order to remain in the series.
Whereas the first Test match was won by the visitors by 89 runs at Nottingham, the penultimate T20I was a thriller as it was a last-over finish, and the Australian side won the game by four wickets while chasing a target of 154 runs on the second last delivery.
