On March 31, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will square off in the opening game of the 2023 IPL.
The opening match of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31 and will feature the defending champion Gujarat Titans taking on the Chennai Super Kings.
David Miller, one of the top players in the 2022 IPL, recently informed GT that he and a few other South African players will miss the season opener against CSK in order to attend the ODI matches the team will play against the Netherlands.
Miller recently acknowledged that his choice to skip the tournament’s opening game in favour of national duty had angered the Gujarat Titans. In order to qualify directly for the 2017 ODI World Cup, South Africa will play the Netherlands in two ODIs.
In Ahmedabad, playing is always a big deal: Miller
The South African batter expressed his opinion that the team was not at all pleased with Miller’s absence from the first game of the 2023 IPL when asked about the reaction of the GT administration.
“They were very angry. Playing in Ahmedabad is always a big deal, especially for the first game versus Chennai. Although it makes me a little sad to be missing it, wearing green and gold has always been a privilege and an honour. Also, we still have two games against the Netherlands to prepare for, so I believe fielding the strongest team possible is the best course of action,” Miller added at a news conference.
“Whether I’m a little disappointed or not, the process has happened; there was never any kind of choice provided to us. As a result, I will miss one game. We have our strongest team on the field, but despite that, we still have a lot of work to do in those two games. Thus, having that emphasis will be wonderful, he said.
