Indore Test: With a nine-wicket victory over India in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia made they eagerly awaited a comeback. India’s batting lineup broke down in the game’s opening innings, as they were bowled out for just 109 runs.
With 197 runs scored in the first innings, the Australians presented a compelling case for themselves. Cheteshwar Pujara’s crucial knock, in which the experienced batsman scored 59 runs and set Australia a target of 76 runs to chase, helped India make a slight comeback in the match, which they were able to complete with relative ease.
Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh spoke up after seeing India’s lacklustre performance in the third Test to offer his opinion on the game. Waugh added that India’s complacency and batsmen’s throwing of wickets were big contributing factors to their defeat.
“I believe that India let up on the gas. I believe they became smug. They believed everything would fall into place for them after they had won the toss. They failed to strike the proper balance between offence and defence. Few of their batters lost their wickets by playing too aggressively,” Waugh told Fox Cricket.
“In the opening innings, they were as accurate with the ball as they possibly could be. They frequently bowled half-volleys. India needs to think hard right now, in my opinion. They have a chance to recover because they performed much below par during the game,” he added.
India must win one more game to guarantee a position in the World Cup final.
Australia interfered with India’s strategy to win the third Test, which would have assured them a place in the World Test Championship final. To ensure their place in the WTC final, India still needs to win one more game.
On March 9, the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between the hosts and Australia will be played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, and everything will be on the line.
