IPL 2023: The Punjab Kings maintained composure to defeat the Mumbai Indians by 13 runs in Match No. 31 of the IPL 2023 on Saturday night at the Wankhede Stadium. Due in major part to paceman Arshdeep Singh’s outstanding performance in the last over, where he let up only two runs and also bagged a few wickets, MI were held to 201/6 at the end of their 20 overs despite needing to chase down a challenging 215 for the win. With statistics of 4-0-29-4, Arshdeep was the PBKS bowler who returned with the greatest performance.
With eight points after seven games, PBKS is now in fifth place in the standings, while MI is in seventh place with six points after three victories and an equal amount of losses.
Parthiv Patel, a JioCinema IPL expert, was quite impressed with Arshdeep’s performance and noted that “executing, in the end, is really crucial. He got off to a good start by quickly taking Ishan Kishan’s wicket off a catch. When he eliminated Suryakumar Yadav, the game was altered. He was breaking wickets instead of merely bowling at them. His yorkers were abundant and accurate in equal measure. Two stumps broke, and the Wankhede’s extra stumps were brought to the match. They were losing a lot of runs at that point, which allowed Arshdeep to win the game. He is therefore relying on his abilities and doing it very effectively to bowl under duress and produce the Yorkers we saw.
Anil Kumble, another JioCinema IPL guru, talked about the captivating 20th over. “He has previously performed that for Punjab. He has filled that position for the past few years and has excelled at filling in and bowling the challenging overs. It was harder today because Tim David, who is notorious for hitting huge sixes, was on strike and they had to defend 15 runs.
But it’s excellent for him and Punjab that Tim David could field most of those balls in the non-striker’s end. A terrific attempt was made to wrap things up. It’s challenging to regularly hit such yorkers, but Tilak Varma is in excellent shape. I get that he was just batting on his fourth or fifth delivery, but getting him out with a Yorker was brilliant.
Sam Curran received appreciation from Kumble for his outstanding 55 during Punjab Kings’ innings. “I believe Mumbai lost the game in the final five overs. Today, they conceded 96, and Sam Curran is to thank for that. He undoubtedly robbed Mumbai of the match, and the final 15 runs were the deciding factor.”
