IPL 2023: According to head coach Stephen Fleming, the injury to pacer Sisanda Magala has dealt Chennai Super Kings (CSK) yet another devastating blow. In terms of the current IPL, it is believed that the player will be out of commission for at least two weeks.
Ben Stokes, Mukesh Choudhary, Deepak Chahar, and Kyle Jamieson’s injuries have already left CSK in a state of disarray. According to the most recent information, Magala only bowled two overs before departing the pitch due to a split webbing on Wednesday, April 12 during the match versus Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
“For us again, it’s losing another guy; that’s two games straight; and we’re already quite thin, so we’d like it [injuries] to stop,” the player said. Unfortunately, Magala’s hand was split, therefore he was unable to bowl those final two overs. Also, Deepak Chahar did the same in the last game, so our resources are quite limited. But we’re not the only team that has it,” Fleming said after the game, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Medical personnel have not yet determined the severity of the injuries.
Although the medical personnel is still assessing Magala’s damage, he has gone for scans. In addition, CSK has not yet made a formal announcement regarding the player’s situation. Incidentally, the South African pacer replaced Kyle Jamieson in the CSK lineup when Jamieson was ruled out for the duration of the competition.
As Jamieson experienced a recurrence of a lower-back stress fracture, Super Kings made the decision to hire Magala at his starting salary of INR 50 lakh. At the just-finished SA20 in South Africa, the pacer showed himself to be deadly.
With 14 wickets at an economy rate of 8.68, Magala finished the first season of the top-tier league as the co-fourth-highest wicket-taker. The extent of Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana’s injury makes it uncertain whether or not he will be included in the starting lineup for the upcoming matches. On Monday, April 17, CSK will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore, a strong foe.
