IPL Auction 2023: The mini-auction scheduled for December 23 in Kochi will serve as the official launch of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. One of the most eagerly anticipated events is the auction, which is keenly anticipated by both cricket fans and players.
Only 405 of the previously registered 991 players have been confirmed to participate in the auction. On Friday, 58 wicketkeepers, 155 all-rounders, 131 bowlers, and 61 hitters will be available for sale.
Additionally, the BCCI, the country’s highest cricket governing body, announced the addition of an “impact player” before the start of the new season. However, there are restrictions on the employment of foreign players outside of India in the starting XI. This “impact player” can only be an Indian.
In essence, this implies that before signing players, organisations will need to properly evaluate them during the auction. This season will also mark the revival of the classic “Home and Away” format, which was abandoned in earlier seasons as a result of COVID-19 regulations.
On Friday at 2:30 PM IST, the player auction will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered with the highest purse of INR 42.25 crore and Kolkata Knight Riders (INR 7.05 crore) with the least amount of money at their disposal. The total purse of all franchises participating in the auction is INR 206.50 crore.
Due to the release of Kane Williamson last month, SRH will be looking for a new skipper and is therefore anticipated to make a bid for Ben Stokes. In a similar vein, other clubs may seek to add specific types of players to their rosters in order to prepare for IPL 2023.
