T20 WC loss: Jemimah Rodrigues discussed India’s tragic elimination from the recently completed ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 and the impending Women’s Premier League 2023. The young player claimed that after the World Cup campaign, the team was not in a great place, but the next WPL competition is a blessing in disguise since it would help players forget about their experiences in South Africa.
Against Pakistan and Australia in the World Cup, the 22-year-old hitter made significant contributions and finished with 129 runs from five innings. But many people’s hearts were broken, including Jemimah’s, by India’s five-run loss to eventual victors Australia in the semifinal. She claimed that the team had a long time to recover from their World Cup exit, but the WPL has helped her fast change her perspective.
“Honestly, it has taken a while. After the semifinals, we spent two days in South Africa (loss). Everyone was not in a good frame of mind. Nonetheless, travelling here for WPL and spending two days with the family (has helped ease the pain). The loss obviously continues to haunt us, but the WPL is also a blessing in disguise since we enter this competition right away, which will help us get our minds off of the bad thoughts and those things that continue to plague us. That is how we can change our focus,” Jemimah added, as reported by The Indian Express, during a Delhi Capitals event in Mumbai.
“For a very long time, we have been pushing the doors open; now, we are almost there. Yet I have no doubt that the WPL will significantly alter women’s cricket. I would predict that many leaders or match winners will emerge from it, as well as many celebrities,” she continued.
I will continue to question Meg Lanning: Rodrigues, Jemima
Meg Lanning, a World Cup champion, has been named the Delhi Capitals’ captain for the 2018 WPL season, with Jemimah serving as her backup. Jemimah has led Mumbai as the Women’s Senior T20 Trophy captain in the past. She said that she will have a tremendous opportunity to learn from Lanning, adding that the veteran Australian will elevate the team to a new level.
“I’m not sure about the others, but I’m going to keep bugging her and picking her brain. Not everyone has the chance to learn from such stalwarts, but I do, and I am eagerly anticipating it. Since this team is made up of both young and experienced players, I believe Meg makes the greatest leader for this group. Meg Lanning’s expertise will elevate this team to a whole new level,” Jemimah continued.
On March 5 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, Delhi Capitals will begin their WPL season in the second game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
