IPL 2023: Jitesh Sharma, the wicketkeeper-batter for Punjab Kings (PBKS), has revealed how he prepared for the just-ended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Notably, the Punjab hitter had a successful season with the team, contributing crucial hits down the order.
Jitesh got 234 runs in 12 games during his maiden tenure in the 2022 season, scoring at a strike rate of 163.64. While it is common for cricketers to be cautious in the seasons following their debut, this was not the case for Jitesh, who emerged as one of Punjab’s most dangerous finishers in the 2023 season.
Jitesh scored 309 runs in 14 matches, including an undefeated 49, at a strong strike rate of 156.06. The Punjab Kings hitter discussed his approach in the lead-up to the 16th season of the IPL, complimenting Vidarbha colleague Ganesh Satish for telling him to “stick to the plan.”
“When I returned to VCA after the first IPL, I spoke with a senior professional named Ganesh Satish about what I should do with my game. He informed me that when players enter their second season, they tend to demand too much from themselves, but he recommended I adhere to my game plan and aim for a 1-2 per cent improvement to help me progress. He told me not to get in the way,” Jitesh said in an interview with Sportskeeda.
“I kept the same preparation and kept things simple for IPL 2023. I saw it as a warm-up for the Syed Mushtaq Ali event. I just did a lot of practise because the IPL games are played with a lot more intensity,” he continued.
Jitesh has yet to make the national team, but given his lethal hitting abilities, the selection committee may consider including him in the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Team India will face the West Indies in a multi-format series beginning on July 12.
