President of WI: Dr Kishore Shallow has been chosen by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to lead the organization’s top board as president, with Azim Bassarath assuming the role of vice president. Importantly, Dr Shallow succeeds Ricky Skerritt, who presided over the board for the previous four years before deciding not to run for re-election to the CWI.
Azim Bassarath, the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, will serve as Dr Shallow’s deputy on the top board while Shallow collaborated with Skerritt as vice president. The president and vice-president can both run for reelection after the two-year contract is over, according to CWI.
The election procedure was one of the main topics on the agenda of the 24th annual general meeting (AGM), which was held at the Coolidge Cricket Field in Antigua on March 25. Dr Shallow congratulated the departing president for his efforts, whereas Bassarath expressed his joy at taking on the new position.
“I sincerely congratulate the outgoing President Ricky Skerritt for his most recent contribution to our beloved sport on behalf of Cricket West Indies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most difficult times in our lifetime, he served with honour and pride. His term has definitely moved us on the right path.” The official website for Windies cricket cited Dr Shallow.
“The shareholders’ overwhelming vote of confidence is encouraging. My sincere appreciation to them and all the participants for their support during the election. There is no mistaking the huge workload as I begin this new position with Vice President Bassarath. I still subscribe to the idea of inclusivity and harmony. Because the only way West Indies cricket can progress as a cricket nation is if we combine our resources and efforts,” he continued.
Bassarath stated, “It is truly a privilege to have been chosen to serve as Cricket West Indies’ Vice President, and I look forward to working with Dr Shallow and the other members of the Board of Directors as we continue the good work started by Mr Skerritt for the benefit of all those involved in West Indies Cricket.”
