Latest Cricket News: Wriddhiman Saha has spoken out about his future as a domestic cricketer in India. The wicketkeeper-batter said that he will not play for Bengal in the current edition, despite being named in the squad for the knockout round. He stated he is in talks with many associations but hasn’t decided on a destination yet. The Bengal Cricket Association tried everything it could to persuade Saha to reconsider his mind, but president Avishek Dalmiya and head coach Arun Lal were unsuccessful. Last year, a CAB official questioned the right-dedication hander’s to Bengal cricket, which irritated the seasoned stumper.
Wriddhiman Saha, who made his first-class debut for Bengal in 2007, said he was “extremely sad” to be leaving the state after nearly 15 years of service. However, the 37-year-old, who is still regarded as one of India’s greatest wicketkeepers, said hearing “such statements” challenging his “integrity” was “disappointing.”
“For me, too, it is a very sad feeling that I have to go through something like this after playing for Bengal for so long. It is disappointing that people make such comments and question your integrity. As a player, I had never faced such a thing in the past, but now that it has happened, even I need to (move on),” Saha told Sportstar.
Saha has played 122 first-class matches and 102 List A games for Bengal. He stated that he has informed the CAB president of his decision to no longer play for Bengal, but that he will meet with him to complete the formation and obtain the NoC.
“Since I had made up my mind that I won’t play for Bengal, I had informed (the Cricket Association of Bengal president Avishek Dalmiya) over phone. But I will meet him in person and finalise the formalities,” Saha added.
It seems certain that he will join a new team next season, although Saha has not confirmed his decision. “I’ve talked to a lot of individuals, but I haven’t made a decision yet.” He said, “There’s still time for next season…”
The right-hander played a crucial role at the top of the order for Gujarat Titans, who won IPL 2022. “I just went to the IPL to contribute to Gujarat Titans and help them win. I am glad that we won the title, but I am not thinking too much about what will happen next or what should have happened. My job was to perform and I just did that,” Saha added.
