Pakistani Women’s Exhibition: Lea Tahuhu, Laura Wolvaardt, and Danni Wyatt are among the 10 international players who have committed to playing in the three women’s exhibition games that the Pakistan Cricket Board will host during the current Pakistan Super League. In Rawalpindi, the sport will feature two teams competing against one another: Super Women and Amazons.
Bismah Maroof, who recently quit as the captain of the Pakistan squad, will serve as the captain of the Amazons, while Nida Dar, one of Pakistan’s top all-rounders, will serve as the captain of the Super Women.
The Pindi Stadium will host all three contests, with PSL contests on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday following each game on March 8. (March 11). There will be a women’s T20 league, according to the PCB (most probably later this year).
In each team’s starting XI, a minimum of three and a maximum of four foreign players are permitted. Moreover, one U19 or emerging player must be included.
“I’m excited to captain the Amazons squad in the three women’s league exhibition games. Our players get a wonderful chance to showcase their abilities here. The participation of foreign athletes in the exhibition matches will give our athletes the ideal chance to observe and learn from them,” said Bismah as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The first game will aim to commemorate International Women’s Day, and the second game will work with Pink Ribbon Pakistan to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Tania Mallick, the PCB’s head of women’s cricket, thinks that the exhibition matches will give the nation’s talent a chance to shine.
“The fact that the Women’s League exhibition games are taking place makes me ecstatic and happy. Our players are given the opportunity to showcase their abilities and perform at their highest level during these exhibition games. Playing in a league with foreign players gives local athletes the chance to assess their talent level and inspires them to get better at their sport.
This would significantly increase the power of our female cricket players and give them a platform and opportunities outside of cricket,” Mallick remarked.
