ODI Cricket Matches: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has made a daring proposition to limit men’s one-day international (ODI) cricket, especially the bilateral series that are contested throughout the year. The MCC proposed that the improvements be implemented after the 2027 World Cup.
The MCC’s World Cricket Committee recently met at Lord’s Cricket Ground following the second Ashes 2023, when proposals were made, and many were of the opinion that reforms to ODI cricket are essential, given the global expansion of T20 leagues.
Former English cricketer Mike Gatting chaired the 13-member group, and one of the most crucial recommendations was a considerable reduction in ODI cricket, since doing so would provide a much-needed break in the cricket calendar. Wasim Khan, the ICC’s general manager of cricket, has stated that nothing would be taken from ODI cricket, but that the format must find a way to coexist with the continual development of T20 cricket.
T20 competitions throughout the world are clearly dominating the cricket scene right now. Many renowned international players, including as Trent Boult and Jason Roy, have abandoned their central contracts in favour of T20 competitions such as the Big Bash and the IPL (Indian Premier League).
The ODI World Cup 2023 begins on October 5 in India.
In terms of One-Day International cricket, the World Cup 2023 is just around the corner. With India hosting the competition this time, supporters are eager to witness the finest of the best compete for the coveted championship.
Notably, the season opener on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad features reigning champions England taking against New Zealand.
Furthermore, the Indian squad will begin their competition against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. It has been ten years since the team last won an ICC championship, and India, captained by Rohit Sharma, will be eager to break their ICC curse and bring the trophy home.
