MCC Members: The three MCC members engaged in the incident against Australia batter Usman Khawaja in the Lord’s Long Room are likely to be expelled from the club. According to the latest reports, the three members will be before a King’s Council next week to determine if they would be expelled from the organisation.
For the uninitiated, the event occurred immediately after Jonny Bairstow was controversially dismissed by wicketkeeper Alex Carey in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. Khawaja shouted out the three members after the Aussies were harassed in the Long Room as the players headed for lunch.
The MCC constituency is said to be enraged by the occurrence, with some members expressing their displeasure and calling for the members engaged in the case to be removed.
“Find them and kick them out. There are many members who would never do such a thing, and many more waiting in the wings to take their places if they don’t appreciate them. You can’t do that since it’s written in the regulations. “Don’t pick out the bloke who, of all the Aussie team, appears to be the nicest and hasn’t done anything to upset anyone,” one member told The Sydney Morning Herald on condition of anonymity.
MCC has been slandered by the members featured on camera: MCC’s chair
Bruce Carnegie-Brown, the head of the MCC, talked extensively on the subject and flatly condemned the acts of the three members implicated. He also stated that the ECB would provide a full report on the matter and will take necessary action.
“The members shown on camera have brought the MCC to its knees.” Their actions thwart our efforts to publicise the wonderful things that our club does to promote and enjoy cricket. “Their actions limit our ability to carry out our role as guardians of cricket’s laws and spirit,” Bruce Carnegie-Brown explained.
“In less than 100 days, the [England and Wales Cricket Board] will report back on the actions to be taken in response to the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket’s report, which was just published last week,” he said.
